The three times close up lets you see the beginning of spots developing in the dorsal sepal.  It will be crossed with a Peacock Eyes that has spots around the edges of the dorsal from argus.

00314 Paphiopedilum Rhys Keahi

(Paphiopedilum Vanguard 'Singing' x Paphiopedilum gigantifolim 'Hit the Deck')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus -Multifloral

Named for Graham’s middle grandson these are showing some interesting and somewhat different multi-floral flowers.  The petals have some interesting patterning and the backs of both the syn-sepal and the dorsal sepal are black but that color is not evident in the flower face.

00401 Paphiopedilum Sandra’s Helen Maha

(Paphiopedilum Memoria Sandra Pechter Song 'Open Wide' x Paphiopedilum helenae 'Moe')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Hybrids

Sandy was working on small paph hybrids right up to her death.  We took a good example of her work and named it for her then crossed it with the miniature species helenae and named it for her daughter.  it really is a charming miniature Paph. typically putting up two or three flowers in the fall. […]

10110 Paphiopedilum Moonbeam’s Hen

(Paphiopedilum Silver Moonbeamn 'Dorsal Delight' x Paphiopedilum fowled h.f. album-chritianae 'Lehua's Mrs Song II' AM/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Larger than the teacup size, more like a coffee mug, these are small plants, tall stems and spotted flowers.  Flowers frequently. Despite using an album Maudiae and an album species the flowers are coloratum

10105 Paphiopedilum Petula’s Melody

(Paphiopedilum Petula's Sensation'Slipper Zone Red Pebbles' AM/AOS x Paphiopedilum Macabre Illusion 'Slipper Zone First Version' AM/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Don’t know where we got two ‘ll’s’ in Mellody but until the label printer is functional again we have printed the label with one “l”.  One awarded June 2024.  We have requested photographer permission to use the award image.

01213 Paphiopedilum Sighing Hen

(Paphiopedilum Saiun 'Slipper Zone Alboviride' JC/AOS x fowliei hf album-christianae "lehua's Mers Song II' AM/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

One of two hybrids we made using the album form of fowliei with a green and white that is predominantly green.  The result was not what we expected.  But we do have compact plants with lots of growths and often two or even three flowers of the first blooming.               […]

01011 Paphiopedilum Peacock Parade

(Paphiopedilum Magically Wood 'Pink Diamond' x Paphiopedilum Magical Peacock 'Flirting Red')

in News & Events > Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

This has intriguing promise.  The pod parent really has diamond points and is predominantly pink.  Add the red component exhibited by the pod parent, and let;’s hope to find red.  Hit the thumbnail to see a second photograph that is a sibling

00801 Paphiopedilum Jacque’s Moon

(Paphiopedilum Jacqueline's Spring Moon 'Lightness' x Paphiopedilum Hawaiian Moon 'White Mostly')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

A lighter green & white with the possibility of predominantly white. As the clonal name says, it can happen.  This plant was fine on the first flower and we expect it to be fine of the third.  Who knows what caused this birth defect. When we see another plant in flower we will add it. […]

00611 Paphiopedilum Hawaiian Moonlight

(Paphiopedilum Whte Promise 'Slipper Zone White Happens' AD/AOS AM/AOS x Hawaiian Moon 'Pale Glow')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

White rules apply.  If it is in bud and appears either white or pale yellow then the price is $100.  If you buy PLANT ONLY then the Select price applies $20 but there is no guaranty that the flower will be white or pale yellow, it could be green and white

00311 Paphiopedilum Macabre Hijinks

Paphiopedilum Macabre Hawaiian 'Slipper Zone Form Fantasy' HCC/AOS x Paphiopedilum Luna Hijinks 'Blushing Everywhere'

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

There is an awarded one, but we think this photograph is more representative of the potential for this hybrid.  Surprised ourselves, we show both this and the awarded one, click on the photo to see both.

00214 Paphiopedilum Luna Highlights

(Paphiopedilum Wonderful Jack 'Flying Duo' x Paphiopedilum Luna Pleasure 'Monster Sepals')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Again we used sepals to try to enlarge the almost completely overlooked synsepal.  We did not succeed with the awarded flower but the album version out of the same pod produced a nice start to a synsepal enhancement.  Click on the thumbnail to open the other photograph.  We have no idea how the back of […]

00213 Paphiopedilum Luna Fantasy

(Paphiopedilum Luna Hijinks 'Pale Moon' x Paphiopedilum Fred's Fantasy 'Slipper Zone Syn Spectacular'HCC/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Luna Hijinks is a charming multicolored classic current Maudiae style flower.   We are looking to promote the synsepal based on the size of the pollen parent’s synsepal. And many are showing an improved synsepal which is beginning to frame the pouch. We are also seeing other flowers like this where the spots on the […]

00212 Paphiopedilum Macabre President

(Paphiopedilum Presidential Moon 'Pink Glow' x Paphiopedilum Macabre Hawaiian 'Pale Pink Stance')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Aren’t they all, apologies for using the same comment twice but at least this version has a different look to it.  Sorry have not figured out how to delete the original photo.  Click on the thumbnail to see the new version.

91203 Paphiopedilum Delightfully Contrasting

(Paphiopedilum Macabre Pops 'Dominant Gene' x Paphiopedilum Enchantingly Wood)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Very variable with some significant contrasts showing between petal colors and sepals.  On the other hand some simply delightful coloratums.   This remake shows far more coloratums than the previous version which the photograph is from.

91004 Paphiopedilum Petula’s Sensation

(Paphiopedilum Macabre Contrasts 'Flying Duo' x Paphiopedilum Petula's Flame 'Maroon Majesty')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

This must be the sixth or seventh time we have made this cross.  Every time we find both parents in bloom we cross them totally forgetting we have made this hybrid before.  Usually we use different parents, we have this time, so there are different results.  But this explains why out is our most awarded […]

90811 Paphiopedilum Petula’s Sensation

Paphiopedilum Macabre Contrasts 'Flirting Pink Lehua' HCC/AOS x Paphiopedilum Petula's Flame 'Petal Dominance')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Is this the sixth or seventh time we have made this cross?  We love these parents ad can’t resist remaking the cross every time we find both parents in bloom.  Photo from an earlier version.

90602 Paphiopedilum Petula’s Sensation

(Paphiopedilum Macabre Contrasts 'Black Flourish' x Paphiopedilum Petula's Flame 'Lehua Contracts' HCC/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

A remake of a previous offering.  This is something we do not like to do but the parents look so good together we remake without thinking.  This is one that can produce really dark, often black petals.  We have published an AQ photograph to give you a good idea of the range of looks that […]

90402 Paphiopedilum Crouching Tiger

(Paphiopedilum Bel Royal 'Striking a Pose' x Paphiopedilum philippinense fma alboflavum 'Slipper Zone Sterling' AM/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus -Multifloral

We remade this very popular hybrid with the objective of lightening the color of the flowers.  These came out of flask April 2019 but are already as big as our Crouching Tiger from the previous time we made this hybrid.  One from the previous time is shown here in the photograph. We are right, these […]

80507 Paphiopedilum Tempting Kings

(Paphiopedilum Temptation 'Lehua's Green Joy' HCC/AOS x Paphiopedilum kolopakingii fma katherinae 'Eight Count Song')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus -Multifloral

This time we did achieve what we had hoped for, a different color in a true multi-floral.  fma katherinae is the album form of kolopakingii that we put with our almost green Temptation.  Yes these flowered for the first time in 2021, three years out of flask.

70403 Paphiopedilum Tempting Philip

(Paphiopedilum Temptation 'Lehua Green Joy' HCC/AOS x Paphiopedilum philippinense fma alboflavum 'Slipper Zone Sterling' AM/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus -Multifloral

We took our awarded green Temptation, it’s not an album but very close.  We added our.awarded philippinense fma alboflavum.  Most of the flowers we have seen are light brown/yellow.  We assume another generation of album is needed to get the true yellow we are looking for.  But that seed pod did not hold this year.

90701 Paphiopedilum Passing Clouds

(Paphiopedilum Luther Pass 'Tall One' x Paphiopedilum Milmoore 'Khasi' AM/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus - Bulldog Reds & Spots

Another attempt to improve the stem length with a remarkably tall Luther Pass and an old favorite as the pollen parent.  We are seeing blooms 2 – 1/2 years out of flask but the plants are small.  We would prefer to sell them beginning with the 2023 – 24 season unless you absolutely insist.

91104 Paphiopedilum Sandra’s Barbary Coast

(Paphiopedilum Memoria Sandra Pechter Song 'Green Glow' x Paphiopedilum barbigerum 'Hope')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Hybrids

Continuing our late friend Sandra Petcher Song’s attempts to create a teacup size bulldog we took her bulldog crossed with helenae and added another small species, barbigerum.   The name celebrates the fact that Sandy went to law school in San Francisco when there was still an area of the city known as the Barbary Coast.  Small plant, […]

80701 Paphiopedilum Odette’s Inspiration

(Paphiopedilum Odette's Moment 'Tsunami Siren' x Paphiopedilum Odette Divine 'Lehua Dark Desire' HCC/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Hybrids

A red bulldog was introduced into this line several generations ago.  We now have a red Maud on steroids.  Two issues, the flowers are spectacular but  are given to color breaks, and the plants need a heavy diet of calcium to avoid yellowing of the leaves.

90211 Paphiopedilum Blushing Wonder

(Paphiopedilum Mr. Wonderful (2010) 'Pink Glow' x Paphiopedilum Blushing Petula 'Pink Abounds')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Another Mr. Wonderful (2010) hybrid with beautiful pink and minimal spotting.  Mr. Wonderful had (2010) added as we all missed the fact there is a hybrid Paphiopedilum registered as Mister Wonderful.  Sorry the photo has small botrytis damage on the dorsal sepal.  The photo will be replaced as soon as possible

90103 Paphiopedilum Petula’s Rhapsody

(Paphiopedilum Presidential Moon 'Pink Magnificence' x Paphiopedilum Presdentially Petula 'Parading Pink')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Another in our creation of pink in the Petula series.  Yes, we know the flower in the photograph has form issues, but we are using it to show the exceptional range of colors and the beauty of the synsepal framing the pouch

80503 Paphiopedilum Oriental Desire

(Paphiopedilum Oriental Jewel 'Double White' x Paphiopedilum Oriental Wolf 'Lightness')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

A cross of a very light Green & White with one of our whites.  A good chance of some white flowers.  Just look at the photograph.  Not the best form by any stretch of the imagination but the spots abound.  Just imagine the next generation if we can put some color into the spots!

80305 Paphiopedilum Jane Edgley

(Paphiopedilum Duguesclin 'Lehua Double Delight'.HCC/AOS x Paphiopedilum mastersianum 'David' AM/AOS)

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

Hugely popular, a delightfully tall stemmed, long lasting flower thanks to mastersianum, with sukhakulii adding a great touch of character.  We have four photographs.  Click on the thumbnail, you should see the rest of them

80106 Paphiopedilum Oriental Allure

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)

This is the first of several crosses we have made to try to increase the supply of white Maudiae style.  The green and white from this cross are available as part of wholesale orders.  The boys is they will carry the white gene.  The ones that are showing white are available for $100 each as […]

(Paphiopedilum wardii 'Chocolate Drop' HCC/AOS x Paphiopedilum rothschildianum 'Lisa')

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus -Multifloral

We remade this roth hybrid for one very simple reason, we dearly love Iantha Stage (roth x sukhakulii) and often wondered what Garnet Crown (roth x wardii) would look like.  We could never find one so the next option was the remake.  The foliage is incredibly attractive, a mottled, light, bright green.  Seven and a […]

61011 Lycaste Balliae

(Lycaste Balliae 'Chimera' x self)

in Lycastenae > Lycastenae Select

We are anxious to see this flower.  Its parent Lycaste Balliae ‘Chimera’ had an intriguing flower, pink with mottled white stripes.  The initial thought was a virus but testing was negative so we selfed it to see what the flower will look like.  We will test again before we ship any out.  Lycaste are susceptible […]
