in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
Again we have crossed a white with a Green & White in an attempt to improve the form of the white and get more quantity from the cross.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
We love adding venustum to Maud hybrids. The colors go all over the place and these are so easy to bloom. In this case you have to love the dorsal sepal.

in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
Lots of spots on typically a pink background. We love the large dorsal sepal and the peek-a-boo synsepal giving a hint of definition to the pouch. Both are typical of this cross.

Almost all are deep red vini-colors.

The colors are just astounding, love that dorsal sepal

Pinks, what else can we say. Some with spots and some without
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
Again looking for bright pink and green with very few spots, if any.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
Love this form, and the color is quite attractive too, but it does not hold as much appeal as the vinis, unfortunately.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
Not too many left of this delightful pink that also has quite a few reds
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
There are already several HCC’s to this grex, but we could not resist taking this flower in for consideration. This cross is generating a lot of flowers with this appearance.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
This puts a very light Green & White with a very light coloratum. There is a green and white version, open the posted photo to see the coloratum.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Price Point > Paphiopedilum Price Point - Maudiae Style (Coloratum, Vini, Flames, Green & White)
We found a whole group of this delightful pink with spots. We thought we had completely sold out but here they are again.

Continuing our late friend Sandra Petcher Song’s attempts to create a teacup size bulldog we took her bulldog crossed with helenae and added another small species, barbigerum. The name celebrates the fact that Sandy went to law school in San Francisco when there was still an area of the city known as the Barbary Coast. Small plant, […]

Another of our attempts at getting a more freely flowering bulldog style. This time using a light colored bulldog style with a spotted variety of the species.

A spotted white bulldog with an unusual variety of gratrixianum.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Hybrids
A red bulldog was introduced into this line several generations ago. We now have a red Maud on steroids. Two issues, the flowers are spectacular but are given to color breaks, and the plants need a heavy diet of calcium to avoid yellowing of the leaves.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Hybrids
One quarter spicerianum, three quarters yellow, autumnal bulldog.

A very old bulldog with a fairly recent bulldog.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Hybrids
Another of our attempts to bring bulldog influence into Maudiae style breeding. The use of Hellas helps promote pink, as surprising as that may be. This is another hybrid that likes a lot of calcium, we use crushed oyster shells as a top dressing.

A selfing of a lighter colored flower, although there does appear to have been a dark form in the background as we are seeing one or two with much darker leaves. We also have another, newer version. We will pull your order from the better looking group at the time you order.

We found the pod parent in the hands of Yoko Fisher (Jerry’s wife) having her photograph taken with it so she could show the size in comparison with her face. The flower is huge and we put it with our green Tomatillo. We ae seeing some intriguingly large greens and yellows.

Another attempt to improve the stem length with a remarkably tall Luther Pass and an old favorite as the pollen parent. We are seeing blooms 2 – 1/2 years out of flask but the plants are small. We would prefer to sell them beginning with the 2023 – 24 season unless you absolutely insist.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus - Bulldog Reds & Spots
The pod parent, Red Beauty, is an intersectional so we were excited when it held a seed pod and thrilled when we got flasks back. Not a lot, but the few we have seen flower are delightful smaller reds.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus - Bulldog Reds & Spots
An effort to increase the stem length of red and spot bulldogs. The shortness of stems has typically long frustrated us. These are showing some improvement in this category.

This time we did achieve what we had hoped for, a different color in a true multi-floral. fma katherinae is the album form of kolopakingii that we put with our almost green Temptation. Yes these flowered for the first time in 2021, three years out of flask.

Our light colored Kolosand went with our philippinense alboflavum and some of the progeny are album, not all. Even the color form are really very appealing.
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus > Paphiopedilum Premium Plus -Multifloral
We took our awarded green Temptation, it’s not an album but very close. We added our.awarded philippinense fma alboflavum. Most of the flowers we have seen are light brown/yellow. We assume another generation of album is needed to get the true yellow we are looking for. But that seed pod did not hold this year.

We remade this roth hybrid for one very simple reason, we dearly love Iantha Stage (roth x sukhakulii) and often wondered what (roth x wardii) would look like. We could never find one so the next option was the remake. These are in 4″ pots and look to be about a year away from blooming […]
Lehua Orchids is located on the Island of Hawaii (the Big island, also known as the Orchid Isle). We are on the slopes of Mauna Loa, half way between Hilo and Volcano in a community called Mountain View. In this location we enjoy the benefits of our almost daily trade winds, and nightly from the cooling effects of our “mauka” winds (winds coming down from the top of the mountain)
In this location we are able to specialize in intermediate temperature orchids. Our daily highs in summer are about 85 degrees with a 20 degree drop at night. in winter our highs are around 75 and 60 at night. These conditions allow us to specialize in our favorite orchids, Paphiopedilums, Phragmipediums, Angraecums and Lycaste.
