Paphiopedilum Saigon Pink ‘Lehua’s Pink Phantom’ AM/AOS (20142714 award photo Barfield)

10504 Paphiopedilum Saigon Pink

(Paphipedilum Ho Chi Minh 'Pink Balloon' x Paphiopedilum philippinense 'JEM' AM/AOS)
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Brachypetalum/Parvisepalum Influenced

When these are good they are stunning, no two ways about it.  Unfortunately there is a high risk of them being not very good, although the color is still a delight.

Paphiopedilum Henrietta’s Charm

00404 Paphiopedilum Henrietta’s Charm

(Paphiopedilum Henrietta Fujiwara 'Sunny' AM/AOS x Paphiopedilum delenatii 'Morning Pink')
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Brachypetalum/Parvisepalum Influenced

A multifloral, one we are trying to breed on to get a higher flower count and a white multi.  This time we have produced two, sometime three white flowers that we plan to breed to philippinense fma alboflavum.  Meanwhile we have a great flower to enjoy in its own right.

Paphiopedilum Fairly Dreamy ‘Lehua Laughing’ HCC/AOS (20152676 award photo Barfield)

01206 Paphiopedilum Fairly Dreamy

(Paphipedilum Dreaming Green 'All Green' x Paphiopedilum fairrieanum fma bohlmannianum 'Surprise')
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - fairrieanum influences

Another of our very successful fairrieanum with yellow complex crosses.  Most have very tall stems.  Flowers show significant coloring despite the fact that we used an album fairrieanum.

Paphiopedilum Select – Kinda/Sorta Complex

Paphiopedilum Starring Venus

00405 Paphiopedilum Starring Venus

(Paphiopedilum Telstar 'Orbit' x Paphiopedilum venustum fma measursianum 'Cheerful')
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Kinda/Sorta Complex

We took a yellow complex (bulldog) and crossed it with an album species.  The result is a neat, smaller, charming quasi complex with attractive leaves.

Paphiopedilum Select – Multifloral/Sequential

4” square pots

21001 Paphiopedilum Cascading Purple

(Paphiopedilum Cascading Pink 'Lehua Glauco'roids' AM/AOS x Paphiopedilum lowii '7 Wonder')
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Multifloral/Sequential

We love the result of crossing our much admired Cascading Pink with the great blooming habit of lowii. We used our ’7  Wonder’ lowii clone as it is our most floriferous in terms of flower count and the number of spikes.  We need to take a photograph.

Paphiopedilum Victoria’s Passion

20802 Paphiopedilum Victoria’s Passion

(Paphiopedilum victoria-mariae 'Pink Charm' x Paphiopedilum lowii 'Dragon's Flight' HCC/AOS)
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Multifloral/Sequential

We could not believe that this primary hybrid had not been made.  We are delighted with the result.  However, interestingly we made the same cross using lowii as the pod parent.  We have a lot but you will probably never see them as almost all of them with lowii as the pod parent are failing [...]

Paphiopedilum Vicky’s Twirls

11105 Paphipedilum Vicky’s Twirls

(Paphiopedilum Robinianum 'Lehua Rampant' AM/AOS x victoria-mariae 'Pink Charm')
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Multifloral/Sequential

A very appealing mid-size flower that has a great sequential habit on a tall, upright stem.

Paphiopedilum Tigerdolli

01007 Paphiopedilum Tigerdolli

(Paphiopedilum haynaldianum 'Royal' x Paphiopedilum henryanum 'Major Spots')
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Multifloral/Sequential

At last we have seen one bloom, aand a few others have come into bud.  Very slow to initiate the first bloom, a little over 5 years out of flask.  let’s hope they bloom regularly from here on out.  However we have found that with us henryanum seems to bloom every otehr year. Lets hope [...]

Paphiopedilum Avalon Druid

00503 Paphiopedilum Avalon Druid

(Paphiopedilum Avalon Mist 'Tall Dream' x Paphiopedilum druryi 'Ray' HCC/AOS)
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Multifloral/Sequential

We created this to be a Druid Spring look-alike, but larger.  We achieved this by using Avalon Mist as one of the parents.  Avalon Mist looks like primulinum on steroids.  Delightful and sequential with the distinctive druryi stripe.

60705 Paphiopedilum Mount Avalon

60705 Paphiopedilum Mount Avalon

(Mount Toro 'Highlight' HCC/AOS x Avalon Mist ‘Sunshine’)
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Multifloral/Sequential

Another Honey look alike, this time with a touch of glaucophyllum that gives a little more pink

Paphiopedilum Select – Novelty

Paphiopedilum Lynleigh Koopowitz (using delenatii fma vinicolor)

40702 Paphiopedilum Lynleigh Koopowitz

(Paphiopedilum malipoense 'Chunky' x Paphiopedilum delenatii fma vinicolor 'Pinky')
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Novelty

We remade Lynleigh, not something we usually do,  but this time with delenatii fma vinicolor.  We are seeing more pink in the flowers and the foliage is very dark, especially on the underside of the leaves.

Paphiopedilum Nitens fma album

10102 Paphiopedilum Nitens fma album

(Paphiopedilun Nitens 'Gyorgy' x self) [Paphiopedilum insigne fma sanderae x Paphipedilum villosum fma fuscoviride]
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Novelty

The album form.  We selfed a Nitens album form and got nothing but albums.  A few have some small red spots that do come from one form of insigne most are pure album.

Paphiopedilum Select – Species

4” square pots
In bud delivered in the US (except Alaska) in-pot $13.00

Paphiopedilum callosum var.sublaeve ‘Withdrawn Gift’

30103 Paphiopedilum callosum var. sublaeve

(Paphiopedilum callosum var. sublaeve 'Withdrawn Gift' x self)
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Species

Synonym callosum var. thailandense.  Great multifloral, yes it is, species.  The first bloom usually shows two flowers but the parent has had consistently three and sometimes four flowers.  Repotted into 4″ pots Spring 2015.  Here is a picture of the parent.

Paphiopedilum sukhakulii fma aureum

21103 Paphiopedilum sukhakulii fma aureaum

(Paphiopedilum sukhakulii fma aureum 'Green Triumph' x Paphiopedilum sukhakulii fma aureum 'Green Joy')
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select - Species

These were transplanted into 4′ final pots in early 2015.  Normally we do not list anything until it has been in its final pot for a year.  We know how much in demand species areand these are flowering beautifully, so here they are.

Paphiopedilum tonsum

10704 Paphiopedilum tonsum

(Paphiopedilum tonsum 'Tall B' x Paphiopedilum tonsum 'Bigby")
in Paphiopedilum > Paphiopedilum Select > Paphiopedilum Select - Species

We sibling crossed two carrying the same album parent.  We did get a number of fma alboviride that we have kept to try to self.  We did not get the statistical 25% presumably because the album form is weaker and the seedling would have been culled in the growing cycles.  We are selling the alboviride [...]

  • About Lehua Orchids

Lehua Orchids is located on the Island of Hawaii (the Big island, also known as the Orchid Isle). We are on the slopes of Mauna Loa, half way between Hilo and Volcano in a community called Mountain View. In this location we enjoy the benefits of our almost daily trade winds, and nightly from the cooling effects of our “mauka” winds (winds coming down from the top of the mountain)

In this location we are able to specialize in intermediate temperature orchids. Our daily highs in summer are about 85 degrees with a 20 degree drop at night. in winter our highs are around 75 and 60 at night. These conditions allow us to specialize in our favorite orchids, Paphiopedilums, Phragmipediums, Angraecums and Lycaste.
