Collectors’ Bench
2030 Masdevallia caloptera
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – neat, small multifloral often with 5 flowers open per spike
1028 Paphiopedilum Veiled Love red tag #4
(Satin Veil 'White Aura' x Sorcerer's Stone 'Yellow Desire')
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Paphiopedilum
$100 – just slightly smaller than the recently sold red tag #3 this is a delightful flower with beautiful balance. The predominantly white dorsal is not heavily creased as is the case with many modern yellow complex hybrids. Flowered in February 2012, beginning to fail in mid-March. ns 11.6 cm dw 9.7 cm pw 4.5 [...]
2042 Masdevallia Glamorous Dean red tag #2
(Dean Haas 'Jake' x coccinea alba 'Green Tree' AM/AOS)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$75 – Smaller than #1 and #3 but the color is far more intense, fiery reds and oranges throughout. The shape is the same as #1 and #3
2042 Masdevallia Glamorous Dean red tag #3
(Dean Haas 'Jake' x coccinea alba 'Green Tree' AM/AOS)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$75 – Coloring very similar to red tag #1 but not as pronounced and dramatic as #1. Form is similar but the flower is a little slimmer. If you don’t see them side by side as we do you would be thrilled with this flower.
2042 Masdevallia Glamorous Dean red tag #1
(Dean Hass 'Jake' x coccinea alba 'Green Tree' AM/AOS)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
SOLD $350 – (we really don’t want to part with this one) Simply Stunning. If you have not seen its effects before, coccinea alba does wonders to some of the progeny of a hybrid when using it as one of the parents. This is the best one we have seen out of this cross so [...]
1030 Paphiopedilum Joyce Hasegawa red tag #1
(delenatii x emersonii)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Paphiopedilum
SOLD $75 – a very nice example of this much awarded primary hybrid. It is a little pinched in the dorsal sepal. It did open a little flatter than this, we’ll try to remember to photograph the second flower right after it opens. But for the pinching the price would be much higher. This first [...]
1003 Paphiopedilum Oriental Jewel red tag #2
(Luna Jewel 'Green Ice' x Oriental Moon 'Charisma')
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Paphiopedilum
$75 – clearly this is here for those of you who like to breed with the recessive gene. The color is everything on this. The form is, quite frankly, poor. We have used its sibling in breeding and it is carrying a pod at this time. The pollen has also created a pod. We have [...]
1003 Paphiopedilum Oriental Jewel red tag #1
(Luna Jewel 'Green Ice' x Oriental Moon 'Charisma)
in Collectors' Bench > Paphiopedilum > Collectors' Bench Paphiopedilum
$50 (in bloom Nov 2011) the lawrencianum influence is totally dominant, just look at that dorsal. Incredible green striping in the light green pouch
1014 Paphiopedilum Odette’s Wonder red tag #3
(Odette's Fred 'Blazing' x Fred's Ghost 'Clarity Red)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Paphiopedilum
$100 – an intriguingly colorful version of a vini crossed with a vini. good form
3002 Angulocaste Olympus ‘Everest’ HCC/AOS
(Angcst Apollo x Lyc Sunrise)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Lycastenae

(Friedrich von Hayek 'Flaming' x superbiens 'Majestic Maroon')
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Paphiopedilum
$75 – very similar to our recently awarded clone. The award is provisional pending registration, but the official photo should be available in our awards section. There is a second bud hidden behind the flower that will display nicely at 90 degrees to the original flower
1014 Paphiopedilum Odette’s Wonder red tag #1
(Odette's Fred 'Blazing x Fred's Ghost 'Clearly Red')
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Paphiopedilum

2040 Masdevallia Xanthino-Veitchiana
(veitchiana x xanthina)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – where did veitchiana go? Weird and we love it
2039 Masdevallia pumila
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – another neat and unusual species that appears to like cooler temps, although it has bloomed in our climate
2038 Masdevallia gutierrezii
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – really attractive gossamer white flowers sit on top of the leaves. It has flowered in our greenhouses but appears to prefer a cooler climate
2037 Masdevallia Copper Angel ‘Yes It Is II’
(triangularis x veitchiana)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 almost identical to 2034 ‘Yes It Is’ It has the same judging problems. There are judges who do not recognize the improvements in breeding and the exceptional flower. Most of the siblings of this Copper Angel have the traditional shape and markings. There are just two that are exceptional
2036 Masdevallia Redwing ‘Majesty’
(infracta x coccinea)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – this is a division of the plant we selected for our own breeding program. Even though this is a coccinea hybrid it does very well in our warmer temperatures
2035 Masdevallia veitchiana ‘Betty’ AM/AOS
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$45 – we love this one and its a great parent
2034 Masdevallia Copper Angel ‘Yes It Is’
(triangularis x veitchiana)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – magnificent flower. This one clearly favors veitchiana with very little influence from triangularis other than improving the caudae. This causes a lot of judges problems and this has been screened as “not correctly named” With the correct judging team this and its sibling, ‘Yes It Is II’, both deserve high awards
2033 Masdevallia pachyura ssp. leptoura
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – another neat multifloral. multiple stems and multiple flowers usually all open at the same time
2031 Masdevallia Redshine ‘Sheila’ FCC/AOS
(Falcon Sunrise x Marguerite)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$125 – simply stunning and a frequent and willing bloomer
2029 Masdevallia Copper Angel ‘Orange Sunset’ AM/AOS
(triangularis x veitchiana)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$45 – distinctly different from ‘Lava Trails’ but clearly not anything like our ‘Yes It Is’ clones. You can see both the veitchiana and the triangularis in this clone
2028 Masdevallia colossus
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$30 – another one that Luer tried to reclassify. Again we agree it should be reclassified into a new genus. Luer wanted to put it with coriacea and it has a lot of the same characteristics. This species has deep brown flowers with an “interesting” fragrance, some say it is like a blue cheese! This [...]
2027 Masdevallia coriacea
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – an interesting species. Creamy white flowers held on strong stems at the top of the leaves. The stem is triangular, just like infracta. It is one that Luer tried, unsuccessfully, to reclassify into a new genus. We tend to agree that it belongs in a different genus
2026 Masdevallia Angel Tang
(veitchiana x tonduzii)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$35 – every bit as good as, if not better than, our awarded clone ‘Lehua Orange Veitch’ Clearly this should be awarded as well. We hope you are the successful exhibitor
2024 Masdevallia Geneva Spots ‘Lehua Purple Delight’ AM/AOS
(chaparensis x White Swallow)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$90 – everyone who visits wants a piece of this. Clear white with purple spots. We have been unable to recreate anything like it, and have had no success breeding with it, either
2022 Masdevallia Bella Donna ‘Lehua Snow Blush’ HCC/AOS
(coccinea x datura)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$40 – a really attractive bloom. mostly white with just hints of pink. It does bloom for us, but in truth really likes to be a little cooler
2021 Masdevallia Annette Hall ‘Jammin’
(Copper Angel x Manco Inca)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – really an attractive flower, tall stems held well above the leaves
2020 Masdevallia Mary Staal ‘Golden Gate’ AM/AOS
(coccinea x Angel Frost)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$45 – bred to be a cool grower but does very well in our climate. Tall stems hold rich yellow flowers well above the leaves
2019 Masdevallia tovarensis
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – the Christmas flowering Masdevallia. Interestingly a reluctant bloomer in our greenhouses but does fine out in the yard, go figure. Lots of white flowers held just above the leaves
2018 Masdevallia rolfeana
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$30 – delightful rich burgundy flowers with chartreuse caudae appear at the base of the leaves
2017 Masdevallia Marguerite ‘Red Star’ HCC/AOS
(infracta x veitchiana)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$30 – the ideal combination for temperature concerns. The warmest Masdevallia combined with the warmest tall stemmed flower Masd Marguerite ‘Red Star’ HCC/AOS (not award photo)
2016 Masdevallia Memoria Augusto Silva ‘Lehua Maroon Marvel’ HCC/AOS
(Urubamaba x Marguerite)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$40 – gorgeous maroon flowers on a long stem. This clone missed an AM by the slimmest of margins, all because one judge refused to accept caudae that are crossed!
2015 Masdevallia Joan Ragan
(coccinea alba 'Snowbird' AM/AOS x Rising Sun 'Radiance')
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – we think we have the right picture. coccinea alba does very exciting things to its progeny and the results can be incredibly variable. Forgive us if we divided a different one from the one we photographed. Whichever one it is we know you will be thrilled
2012 Masdevallia Willy’s ‘Lehua Yellow Glow’
(veitchiana x attenuata)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – our very first cultural award which is why the plant contains the ‘Lehua’ designation. Easy to grow and to bloom. Soon reaches exhibit size. Warning, our snails do love the root tips! Also, the size of attenuata has dominated but the flowering habit of veitchiana prevails in the presentation
2010 Masdevallia Galaxy ‘Orange Dust’ HCC/AOS
(triangularis x Kimballiana)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$35 – hard to believe that there can be an improvement on Kimballiana but there is. This is it. triangularis does wonders for the caudae, and improves the shape
2007 Masdevallia scabrilinguis ‘Winkles’
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – love this gorgeous small translucent white flower with orange caudae. Lots of flowers held in the tops of the leaves
2006 Masdevallia herradurae ‘Maku’u’
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – lovely plant with lots of star shaped flowers in the leaves. This is very temperature tolerant. It only blooms for us after an extended warm period
2002 Masdevallia Minaret ‘Shaherezade’
(yungasensis x ignea)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – beautiful example of a wonderful primary hybrid of two very cool growing species. This grows well for us but is reluctant to flower at our temperatures
2001 Masdevallia Dean Haas ‘Gina’ AM/AOS
(Copper Angel x Angel Glow)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$45 – beautiful example, almost always in flower, temperature tolerant and great parent. Will grow quickly to an exhibit sized plant
2008 Masdevallia veitchiana
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – we selected 10 to look at to meet our needs to bring some new genes into our breeding program. We kept one, these are the other 9. No problem blooming these at our upper end intermediate temperatures
2023 Masdevallia infracta ‘Flutter-By’
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – divisions of what is probably the most temperature tolerant Masd. species. This is the one we used in all our “Fractured” hybrids
2014 Masdevallia Highland Fling ‘Conquest’
(Copper Angel x veitchiana)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$25 – great deep orange, almost red flowers. A remarkable example of adding veitchiana back to Copper Angel
2003 Masdevallia Grand Sun ‘Portland’ AM/AOS
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$50 – beautiful deep yellow flowers. The vigor of the hybrid ensures temperature tolerance despite having two very cool grandparents
2009 Masdevallia Dean Haas ‘Embers’ AM/AOS
(Copper Angel x Angel Glow)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$50 – a great example of this very temperature tolerant and free blooming plant. We have used this in many hybrids very successfully
2005 Masdevallia Charisma ‘Pink Glow’ AM/AOS
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$35 – divisions of this dark version of a great coccinea hybrid. we are able to bloom this in our intermediate temperatures even though coccinea itself is a real challenge for us
2011 Masdevallia Copper Angel ‘Lava Trails’ AM/AOS
(triangularis x veitchiana)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$40 – 9 divisions available of this classic. Plant readily grows into exhibit size with many, many blooms
2025 Masdevallia Angel Tang ‘Lehua Orange Veitch’ HCC/AOS
(veitchiana x tonduzii)
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Masdevallia
$45 – we have three divisions. Lovely orange flowers that clearly favor veitchiana, often a second flower develops on the stem
1010 Paphiopedilum Mr Wonderful (red tag #2)
(Anhinga 'Matthias Pink' x Friedrich von Hayek 'In Pink')
in Collectors' Bench > Collectors' Bench Paphiopedilum
$50 – a smaller version of Mr Wonderful (red tag #1) with slightly more spots on the petals
Keeper Bench
Keeper Bench Sales
These are plants that have been on our Keeper Bench, have probably been used in our breeding program, but now no longer are part of our plans going forward.
Typically these are large plants. Our photograph is of the plant, pot and flower and not simply a close up of the flower. Many that will find their way into this section are exhibit size plants (sorry AOS, but we do not need to pay for another cultural award, we know we can grow plants!)
Prices:
1. For the plant itself, the quoted price plus actual freight (not marked up, this is the amount we pay Fedex, give or take a penny) plus a box charge only if we have to use a new box
2. As part of a half box order (total 15 plants) there is a $1.25 per plant handling charge, $18.75 total, no other charges
3. As part of a full box order, 30 plants or more, delivery is included in the price
4. If your total purchases in one order are $500 or more, regardless of the number of plants, then there is no shipping charge
5015 Paphiopedilum Jewel Green ‘Charm’
(Nikko Magic 'Green Cap' x Tokyosuk 'Jamboree Jade')
in Collectors' Bench > Keeper Bench
SOLD $80 – 5″ pot with at least 7 growths. Unfortunately the leaves are pleated so it will never be eligible for a cultural award, but the flower does show better than our awarded clone ‘Lehua Iridescent Green’ HCC/AOS (77 points) – see our awards section. When we looked at the award we saw a [...]
5013 Paphiopedilum Saiun ‘Tiddles’
(sukhakulii 'Flashdance' x wardii 'Chocolate Drop' HCC/AOS)
in Collectors' Bench > Keeper Bench
